Mission: To combine the fields of Electrical Engineering, of Computer Engineering and of Computer Science under a unified multi-disciplinary department and to conduct world class Electrical Engineering and Computer Science research.
Objectives: The goals of the Department programmes of studies include the elevation of the technical capacity and professional development in Cyprus and across the globe. Taking into consideration the globalization of markets and Cyprus’ position as a member of the European Union, there is a need to train students at a level that renders them competitive and skillful.
Research Services provided: The Department consists of the following Laboratories:
(1) Data Intensive Computing Research Lab

    - Services:
        o Cutting-edge research in the fields of Large-scale Data Processing Systems, Centralized and Distributed Database Systems, and all aspects of Cloud Computing including compute, storage, and networking.
    - Main Equipment:
        o The dedicated computing cluster of DICL is hosted at a rack cabinet in CUT’s data center and consists of 15 rack servers, 3 network switches, and 2 network-attached storage servers. CUT’s data center already keeps high standards for assuring the integrity and functionality of its hosted computer environment.
(2) Photonics and Optical Sensors Research Laboratory
    - Services:
        o PhOSLab performs state-of-the-art high-resolution femtosecond-laser micromachining and inscription in a wide range of opaque (metals, semi-conductors) and transparent materials (dielectrics and polymers), including silica optical fibres.
    - Equipment:
        o Femtosecond laser inscription / micromachining system (3D system, sub-micron accuracy and resolution, visible and infrared sample imaging in real-time)
        o Optical profilometer
        o Atomic force microscope
        o micro-Particle Imaging Velocimetry system
        o Motorised microscope
        o UV lasers
        o Optical fibre test & measurement system (0.6 - 1.7 um)
        o Optical spectrum analyser (2 - 5 um)

    (3) Wireless Sensor Networks Research Lab – CUT Air Quality
      - Services:
          o In situ monitoring of Air Quality

          o 50 TelosB sensor nodes with capabilities
          o 10 Plug & Sense units
          o 6 Smart Environment PRO Waspmote Plug&Sense units




    (4) Network Systems and Science Research Laboratory
      - Services:
          o Geometric approaches to the analysis of large-scale networks and big data;
          o Self-organized systems (e.g., social, Internet, and brain networks): properties, evolution, realistic topology generators, future/missing link prediction, community detection;
          o Mathematical physics of networks (Hamiltonian/Lagrangian dynamics); (iv) navigation/routing in the Internet and other complex systems;
          o Statistical inference methods and hyperbolic mapping of real networks;
          o Network performance analysis and large-scale simulation;
          o Software-Defined-Networks (SDN)
          o Device-centric Access Control;
          o Dynamic Scaling for DBaaS systems;
          o Exploiting social trust to secure OSN systems.
