Mission: To provide high quality services to relevant research projects while maintaining efforts to improve, to develop and to enhance current Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) capacities
Research Services provided: Development of Tailored made UAS for specific applications, Operation of UAS for Environmental Monitoring (Atmospheric Measurements, Pollution etc), Operation of UAS for high quality terrain mapping and 3d reconstruction of buildings and monuments, development and operation of UAS for emergency response operations (e.g. forest monitoring)
Main Equipment used: A unique fleet of fixed wing and rotary wing UAS, a mobile Ground Control Station (GCS)
The USRL consists of the following Laboratories:
(1) Electromechanical Laboratory
- Services:
o Development of UAVs and flight preparation
- Main Equipment:
o A dedicated laboratory (100m2) with fully equipped mechanical and electronics workshops
(2) Composites Laboratory
- Services: A composite materials workshop is currently being arranged adjacent
to the electromechanical laboratory, aiming to serve the innovative
unmanned aircraft developments.
(3) Mobile Ground Control Station (GCS) & Laboratory
- Services:
o Enhances USRL ability for missions in remote areas in Cyprus and abroad. and serves as a mobile laboratory for on the field work as well as for the transportation of the UAS.
- Main Equipment:
o Cutting edge technology to establish reliable communication link with UAVs for long range missions and reliable data streaming.
