Mission: To provide high quality degree programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. that emphasize fundamental principles that prepare young engineers to meet society's needs in a rapidly changing environment. They undertake investigation, research, planning and design in an academic environment that is based on cooperation between faculty, students, industry, research and professional organizations. The students study in a dynamic environment and have the opportunity to work with and learn from research teams at the forefront of knowledge.
Research Services provided: The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering consists of the following Laboratories:
(1) Strength of Materials Laboratory
Main Equipment:
- A 300 kN Materials Testing Machines
- Manual test stands, hardness testers, a torsion apparatus, microscopes, ovens, furnaces and equipment for the preparation of specimens.
(2) Building Materials Laboratory
The Laboratory supports the research and teaching needs of the faculty members of the Department of Civil an Environmental Engineering in the area of Geomaterials
(3) Laboratory of Environmental Engineering
Main Equipment:
The Laboratory of Environmental Engineering, GAIA, supports the teaching and research needs of the Department in the areas of water and wastewater analysis and treatment.
(4) Geomechanics Laboratory
Main Equipment:
Archimedes Research Center for Structural and Construction Technology is an interdisciplinary research center for design, analysis and construction management of structures in the wider sectors of Civil Engineering and Architecture.
(6) Concrete Technology and Structures Laboratory
Main Equipment:
- A 250kN MTS hydraulic actuator, digitally controlled and attached on a self–reacting steel frame
- Mixers, concrete testing frames and equipment for the testing of self-compacting concrete in the fresh state.
(7) Environmental Fluid Mechanics Laboratory
Main Equipment:
- Environmental Fluid Mechanics Laboratory supports teaching and research needs of the CEE Department in the areas of urban air pollution dispersion, turbulence modeling, channel flows, buoyancy-driven flows/ gravity currents, building ventilation, wind engineering, and coastal flows.
(8) Virtual Reality Laboratory
Main Equipment:
- State–of–the–art CAVE environment and haptic peripherals, powerful workstations, 3D modelling and 4D simulation software.
(9) Earthquake Engineering Laboratory
Main Equipment:
- High-tech earthquake simulator (or shake table
(10) Land Surveying Laboratory
Main Equipment:
- Automatic Levels, Total Stations and a GPS
