Mission: To develop and establish itself as an international centre of research and learning in the fields of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering.
Objectives: To offer high calibre undergraduate and post-graduate education in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering and become the first choice for students who want to serve in industry and make meaningful contributions to modern technology and civilization both in Cyprus and in the European Union in general.
Research Services provided: The Department consists of the following Laboratories:
(1) Robotics Control and Decision Systems

    - Services:
        o Digital Innovation Hub for Inspection and Maintenance
        o Competence Center for Manufacturing Systems Logistics
    - Main Equipment:
        o 4 quadrotor aerial robots, 2 of them equipped with thermal (one radiometric) and hi def optical cameras
        o Water tank 3m x 5m x 1.2m with overhead ganry-delta robot
        o 2 micro ROVs 300m diving capability
        o 5 mobile robots (1 industrial)
(2) Device Technology and Chemical Physics Laboratory
    - Services:
        o Undertakes small-scale material synthesis, and facilitates the access to analytical tools, intense light sources, electrical and optical engineering instrumentation that provide powerful insight and understanding of material properties at the nanoscale.
        o Based on smart material processing techniques, the DEVTECH & CP Lab is capable to gain control over the material microstructure and to enable the fabrication of electro-photonic devices such as photo-detectors, solar cells, phototocatalytic platforms and memory media with tailored properties.

(3) Molecular Electronics and Photonics Research Unit

      (4) Archimedes Solar Energy Laboratory - ASEL

            o Outdoor testing in real weather conditions
            o Indoor testing in controlled environmental conditions with the use of a large scale solar simulator.

            o Physical and Chemical vapor deposition systems for nanostructured materials synthesis and growth

            o Atomic Force Microscope for topological, magnetic and mechanical surface imaging
            o UV/VIS spectroscopy for optical properties of materials from reflectance and transmittance measurements
            o Large Solar Simulator for actual product testing and characterization

            o UV Visible Spectrometer (200-800) for specular reflectance and transmittance measurements. Difuse reflectance measurements (integrating sphere)
            o Solar Simulator with 20 metal halide lamps 575W each. Max 1.2W/msq. Spectral matching A.M.1.5

        - To establish continuous communication channels with the local industry with the objective of servicing the needs of both parties with respect to the pertinent practical knowledge and skills.
